Sister companies Micro Medical Technologies and Micro Star Innovations have been recognized as Suppliers to a 2008 Medical Design Excellence Award Winner, and it all started with a journal ad and a web search…
California-based Novare Surgical Systems found New Jersey-based Micro Medical Technologies as part of an industry search and through an exhaustive evaluation process determined that Micro had all the resources in place to assist in developing the manufacturing of their revolutionary line of hand-held laparoscopic instruments.
RealHand® High Dexterity instruments feature jaws that dynamically articulate with full range of motion, enabling surgeons to reach difficult places in ways never before possible with straight instruments. Offering 7 degrees of freedom of movement, the greater dexterity and control achieved with RealHand is leading the way in advanced laparoscopy and emerging minimally invasive therapies such as Single Port surgery and NOTES (natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery).
This hand-directed maneuvering capability is especially effective in minimally invasive surgery and is being used in a variety of General, Gynecology and Urology procedures. Working from Novare Surgical CAD drawings, Micro Medical supplied preliminary prototypes within weeks. Micro and Novare then proceeded into the next crucial phase: Design for Manufacturability, or “DFM”. DFM is the process whereby Micro’s Development group creates a robust process for high volume production.
Micro Medical Technologies and sister company Micro Star Innovations in Largo, Florida provided expertise in the following areas: plastic injection molding, metal injection molding (MIM), metal stamping, laser marking, laser welding, vinyl coating, lubrication, automated fixtures, process assembly, component assembly and packaging
Working together, the companies were able to reduce component costs and streamline manufacturing processes. Today Micro Medical Technologies effectively manages the entire supply chain, assembling dozens of components in their class 100,000 clean room into a finished, packaged device.
The RealHand instrument was recognized as a Medical Design Excellence Award Winner for 2008. The award was presented at the MD&M East show in New York City, on Wednesday June 4th. Micro Medical Technologies and Micro Star Innovations were honored as suppliers to the winning product as part of this premier awards program for the medical technology community.
